The Gran Telescopio Canarias is a 10.4 m (410 in) reflecting telescope undertaking commissioning observations at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on the island of La Palma.[1] As of 2009, it is the world’s largest single-aperture optical telescope.[2]
There is a gallery of astronomical images where it can be seeing the kind of images acquired by the telescope. The images are representations in color of the received data. The colors are assigned using different schemes. Usually it depends on the data they want to represent although sometimes they use purely aesthetic criteria.

Your freehand drawings are wonderful. You always bring character and warmth through your choice of color and the ease of your lines. Well done!!!
Thank you, Jane. I appreciate your comments.
This says it all
Thank you very much, Carl.
Very beautiful. I love especially how you did the light on the sphere.
It was quite challenging. The dome is silver so there are lots of reflections.
Thank you.
Especially nice
Thank you, Elena.
This is amazing work, Nuno! You, as I’ve told your precision is wonderful…sort of gets my mouth to hang open. Are you by any chance an architect?…well… you draw as well as one! The sphere is perfect the light in the center gradually becoming ever so lightly darker to the outer sphere….Fantastic work!
Hugs, xx
Thank you very much, Deb. No, I’m not an architect, I’m a computer engineer. I work with robots and artificial intelligence. Thank you for that comparison!
