I keep with some exercises from the book Rendering in Pen and Ink by Arthur L. Guptill with the same nib pen, the Gillott 404. In this case it has to be controlled the hand pressure and the length of the lines. The idea is to leave some lines unfinished. According to the book the drawing will be more realistically suggestive.

I agree, leaving a line here and there open suggests delicacy, and or light….great exercise, Nuno. xo
Thank you, Deb. Sorry for the delay, I wasn’t online these days.
Very lovely drawing Nuno. Thank you for sharing. It does create depths/shadow.
Thank you. Yes, I agree, it creates a very interesting effect.
Leaving some lines out definitely works. Its a lovely drawing Nuno.
Thank you, Kellie.
Très “sophistiqué”!
I love this one, Nuno.
Merci beaucoup, Cha!
Very subtle indeed. Interesting how you went from the more detailed oil painting to something so “minimalistic” as this!
I think I prefer this one. The oil painting was just for experimenting.
Often what is not there makes a greater impact than what is there. An excellent drawing.
Thanks for commenting.
Great exercise in seeing, Nuno. Sometimes we ponder longer over what to leave out than what to include. I am constantly, In watercolor trying to determine where to soften an edge and where to leave it edgey. Good post.
Sorry for this belated reply. I wasn’t checking the comments these days.
Thanks you!
